Several studies suggest that, in Western society, the rate of children who are not those of their "official" father hovers around 1-2%, far lower than the figures that may have been articulated in the past. And this has been the case for centuries. In other cultures, on the other hand, where paternity is viewed differently, the rate can approach 50%.
