Ski helmets: what protection is there at high speeds?

Légende

The snow is already here, and some of you have been putting on your skis and, we hope, your helmets over the past few days. But do these helmets protect us sufficiently?

A SUVA study has shown that 76% of good skiers exceed 50km/h. Yet the standard for testing helmets only allows for impact at 20km/h. ABE had 16 helmet models tested to find out how they would fare in an impact at 50 km/h, i.e. a fall height of 10 meters. Should the standard be revised to accommodate higher speeds?
