What if certain memory neurons could be rejuvenated? An EPFL team shows that the very brief activation of three "reprogramming" genes (OSK), applied to neurons involved in the storage of memories called engrams, improves memory performance in aged mice, and even in models of Alzheimer's disease. This approach does not target the whole brain, but specifically targets the cells linked to memories, with the idea of restoring them to a "younger" state without going too far in reprogramming.
