Planetary formation called into question after CHEOPS discovery
Légende
In our Solar System, as in the majority of those already observed, rocky planets squeeze in close to the star, while gas giants occupy more distant regions. However, an international team, including Swiss researchers, has just identified a system that thwarts this scenario. Around the star LHS 1903, some 116 light-years away, a small, probably rocky planet lies beyond two gas planets, where we'd expect to encounter gas rather than rock.
