Les Échos de Vacarme: Steiner, a case dʹécole
What if it were possible to do school differently? To make concrete a pedagogy aimed at the all-round development of children, in intellectual as well as physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions? Just over a hundred years ago, in 1919, the first Steiner school opened in Stuttgart, Germany. Steiner schools are very active in German-speaking Switzerland, with two sites in French-speaking Switzerland, and have seen their enrolment drop from 6,300 to less than 5,200 today. What's their day-to-day life like? What school practices distinguish these alternative schools from the public school system? How does anthroposophical philosophy, the esoteric spiritual movement founded in the 19th century by Rudolf Steiner, play out in these schools? And what impact, positive or negative, does this mode of education have in the long term on the children who have passed through it?
